I love musicals. I grew up watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was obsessed with Sweeney Todd at school. I love Hamilton and am even partial to a bit of Russell Crowe in Les Miserables. But some of the worst films are musicals – and video-game adaptations, but let’s not go there! Pitch Perfect 3 or Cats are beyond help, but the film that disappointed me most was The Greatest Showman.

Not the ‘Greatest Show’ by any means, but not to say it’s all bad. In a film riddled with missed opportunities, it tries so hard to dazzle and inspire us with awe that it forgets fundamentals in storytelling and characterisation. Still, it’s pleasant and can easily entertain… but not much more. For an easy-going family-friendly musical, you could certainly do worse.
One of the strongest, funniest movies in the MCU so far. Spider-Man is back, bigger and better than ever. Superhero movie meets teen comedy, this is the geeky, lovable Spider-Man we needed in the Avengers
