I love musicals. I grew up watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was obsessed with Sweeney Todd at school. I love Hamilton and am even partial to a bit of Russell Crowe in Les Miserables. But some of the worst films are musicals – and video-game adaptations, but let’s not go there! Pitch Perfect 3 or Cats are beyond help, but the film that disappointed me most was The Greatest Showman.
Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon and Zendaya post mysteriously contradicting Spider-Man Instagram posts… but what’s up with the titles? Things tend to come in threes; Spider-Man movies, Star Wars trilogies… even new Marvel titles apparently. New film titles aren’t often a big thing – it’s only occasionally we get excited about what the next Avengers or […]
A well-shot film with a strong script, but it’s Vanessa Kirby who steals the show.
Miss the cinema? Want to know how to set up your very own Lockdown Movie Night? Look no further. Covid-19 has ruined much of 2020; jobs lost, businesses closed, events postponed… Even cinema has been terribly impacted by the closure of many cinemas and a range of exciting blockbusters’ releases postponed. The impact has been […]
With the sheer amount of characters in the MCU, there’s no denying the sheer range of personalities… We’ve already decided on Team Cap or Team Iron Man, but what if we sort them into Hogwarts Houses? (And you thought Avengers itself was already an ambitious crossover!) Would you be Team Gryffindor with the strong and […]
TL;DR As funny as the first one (perhaps more so…) An excellent continuation to the first one, without feeling like an unnecessary sequel with the same tired jokes Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedic and improvisational talents on full show Maria Bakalova does a great job holding her own (and at times steals the show) A hilarious, […]
How could you follow Infinity War?! It’s too light and formulaic and lacks a real villain, but Ant-Man and the Wasp is still a fun breath of fresh air.
TL;DR Intricate, captivating plot Occasionally feels like the mission may be “impossible” – finally! Hints at current fears in society but doesn’t really get to the heart of them Incredible fight scenes and stand-out stunts Wonderful cast, each character bringing something special to the film Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby underused Proof that these films […]
Incredibles 2 is just as enjoyable as the first. Though it may lack the bold heart and strong messages of the first, the characters are out on full force, kicking ass and making audiences laugh in style. This is the sequel we wanted – able to stand proudly amongst other superhero films that have come out in the meantime.
It doesn’t beat the original Ocean’s film, does little to surprise us or shake things up (other than an all-female group) and is too easy-going. But it’s enjoyable with comic moments, some nice characters and nods to the original – and it’s a refreshing joy to see a female-dominated cast in a film for everyone.
