I, Tonya is nothing if not refreshing; a uniquely styled biopic which breaks the fourth wall, is effortlessly entertaining and captivates the audience with flawless performances of very flawed characters. This one easily steals a gold medal.
All the ingredients are there, but it’s just a missed opportunity. The bunch of friends are all likeable, well-cast and well-acted, their banter carrying the film in the first act nicely. The constant sinister atmosphere is good, but sadly the horror and scares are missing, with the end feeling like such an unsatisfying mess that it eclipses most of what was good in the beginning.
An OCD and manner-obsessed introvert’s nightmare, rife with biblical references – though it goes too far towards the end. A powerful allegory with a strong message, it’s a well-written, gorgeously shot film with excellent performances and an unrelenting feeling of unease and paranoia.
Sinister, tense and undeniably terrifying with an intricate plot. Also sweet, innocent and very funny with a nostalgic and thought-provoking insight into childhood. Whether clowns scare you or not, you will float too…
Funny, fast-paced and with tons of stuff to enjoy. Despite a few too many montages and some underdeveloped characters, this is still a fun, non-stop flight full of thrills, laughs and personality.
Clever and hilarious script, directed with style by a returning expert and performed to perfection by an incredible roster of actors who are on top of their game.
Although overly complex with ultimately forgettable (but cool) characters, this is a great film imbued with style, incredible fights and a thrilling plot
