Miss the cinema? Want to know how to set up your very own Lockdown Movie Night? Look no further. Covid-19 has ruined much of 2020; jobs lost, businesses closed, events postponed… Even cinema has been terribly impacted by the closure of many cinemas and a range of exciting blockbusters’ releases postponed. The impact has been […]
All the ingredients are there, but it’s just a missed opportunity. The bunch of friends are all likeable, well-cast and well-acted, their banter carrying the film in the first act nicely. The constant sinister atmosphere is good, but sadly the horror and scares are missing, with the end feeling like such an unsatisfying mess that it eclipses most of what was good in the beginning.
Slick, fun and well-choreographed action compliments a film strewn with style, charisma and hilarity. Minor issues with length, female characters and plot don’t stop Kingsman: The Golden Circle giving you all the thrills, laughs, sexiness and insatiable violence we all crave.
An OCD and manner-obsessed introvert’s nightmare, rife with biblical references – though it goes too far towards the end. A powerful allegory with a strong message, it’s a well-written, gorgeously shot film with excellent performances and an unrelenting feeling of unease and paranoia.
It’s truth time! Lots of laughs to be had, but is British comedy Mindhorn any good?
Gorgeous scenery, sets and costumes, decent acting, but all let down by clumsy structure, story and focus
TL;DR Wonderful cast and acting Interesting story with twists and turns that keep you interested Some plot points, twists and relationships between characters not always clearly explained so sometimes doesn’t have the impact it should and makes the pace drag in the first half Feels like a real shocking ending is robbed – the final […]
TL;DR Witty, enjoyable script Funny, likable characters which give the film heart Good cast, but comic genius Stephen Merchant criminally underused But not much happens and often feels like it’s lagging Nothing really feels special about the movie, but it’s comfortable and enjoyable enough ———————————————— Table 19 is a simple, refreshing comedy of which we […]
TL;DR Well-written and performed characters – key to a film set in such a small location where you need to care about them Quick pace to keep everything exciting but not so hurried as to detract from quality But nothing stands out and nothing is special – Gravity and Alien without the special ‘je ne sais quoi’ ————————————— […]
TL;DR Looks good – CGI is impressive, action scenes are slick and exciting But no heart and little engagement with characters or story Scarlett Johansson strong as Major, but can’t help feeling this part was made for an up-and-coming Asian actress ——————————————– Based on the original manga by Masamune Shirow in 1989, for some people […]
