Until a few months ago, the next two Avengers instalments were to be titled Avengers: Infinity War – Part One and Avengers: Infinity War – Part Two. Perhaps unwilling to draw comparisons with the failure of Twilight and The Hunger Games in their attempt to emulate the final Harry Potter entries, Marvel have rid themselves of the part one/ part two cliché.
Since then we only knew that Avengers 3 would be called Infinity War and that Avengers 4 was as yet untitled, or rather Kevin Feige was likely waiting for a grand title announcement, keen to avoid an apparent spoiler.
However perhaps now that won’t be necessary for him to announce, since it seems that Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gomorra herself, Zoe Saldana, has accidentally let slip the title in an interview, speaking to BBC’s Lizo Mzimba recently about the Guardians’ role in the upcoming two Avengers movies.
Here’s what she said about the Avengers:
“We’re in the middle of it. I think the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to Infinity Wars, the first part, and we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year.”
Aha! So it looks like the title of the Avengers 4 is now Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet… which would make sense as these two titles have been comics (although the films will reverse the order of 1991’s Infinity Gauntlet and 1992’s Infinity War).
Honestly this really isn’t a spoiler at all, despite Kevin Feige not announcing the title because he said it was a spoiler. Most of the millions of viewers Marvel have garnered will be unsurprised after seeing that post-credits scene with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet itself. It’s so obvious Thanos will be the big bad guy (unless we’rein for an intense twist…) and we all know the Infinity Stones (and the Infinity Gauntlet seen in the post-credits scene) will be what the plot of the two films centre on.
There’s still much we don’t know about these next two Avengers films, but from what we know so far, it’s hard not to be excited!
